I noticed I hadn't updated my journal since before I flew up here to Great Lakes, Illinois in order to attend the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Commands, aka, "boot camp". Well, I finished that in May and then crossed the street to start Electronics Technician A-school. I have now completed that and I am awaiting orders to my next command (which could be nearly anywhere; Hawaii, Alabama, California, Virginia, Japan, Iceland even) in order to attend C-school. I am hoping for orders to San Diego for ISM school, and I would be very happy to end up on a Arleigh Burke Destroyer. If I get those three things, I will be one happy camper. Wish me luck.

I enlisted in the Navy in December and I am heading to RTC (bootcamp) tomorrow. It was interesting boxing up everything I own. I'm a packrat, so I had to dispose of over a decade's worth of stuff in the process. I guess I'll be checking back in here in 2 months. See you all later.

Well, Halloween is over. I was extremely disappointed in this year's turnout. Considering that it was the weekend, and that the weather was absolutely great, the fact that I had less than twenty trick-or-treaters come to my door in about 5 groups really bothered me. I know Halloween has been in it's death throes for quite some time, at least in the majority of the country, but I was hoping that the perfect conditions would have had a better crowd this year. I spent a LOT of time carving pumpkins, decorating, etc and now I have a crap-ton of candy that I don't know what to do with. Save it for next year, I suppose...

I figured since today was a particularly hectic day, it'd be a good time to update my journal since it's been nearly 8 months now?

Anyway, there were two main highlights of today. First one was that I got a new job, so woohoo. This one should pay pretty well, too. Second one is that a really old guy in a Honda Ridgeline broadsided my own truck in a turn. I saw it coming, too. He was looking the other direction and started to drift over into my lane in a turn. I laid on the horn and tried my best to get away from him, but I wasn't about to plant my vehicle into a tall curb and shrubbery, so he collided with the side of my truck all the while I'm leaning against my horn and my passenger is flailing their limbs and swearing loudly. The old guy didn't even look over at us until about 10 seconds after our trucks locked together. When he did, he looked rather surprised to see someone looking at him right outside his passenger window. We pulled in to a nearby parking lot to exchange info, which is when I found that he wore two hearing aids and could hardly hear anything, which explains why my car's horn, or the crunching body panels, had no effect on him. So yeah, odd day. Also dug big trenches in the dirt next to the driveway to put some stones in the ground. Pretty tired.

Figured it has been an age since I last did anything here. So out with the old, in with the new, right? Happy new year, don't blow yourselves up. Unless, of course, you record  it and upload it to Youtube for me to watch.
